2008 event speaker - James Brayshaw

Ordnance Survey

James BrayshawJames has over 25 years’ of extensive IT technical and consultative management experience both as a user and a provider of software solutions.

James is an Executive Board member of Ordnance Survey as well as one of the Directors of a small Joint Venture Company called PointX.  He is responsible for all aspects of customer and market engagement at Ordnance Survey including Sales, Marketing, Customer Services and Consultancy.

Ordnance Survey is the National Mapping Agency of Great Britain providing a wide range of digital information to Government, Commercial customers and Consumers. It also produces maps!

James joined the organisation at end of 2001 to help transform Ordnance Survey from a traditional Government department into a commercial business that creates real value for the Government Shareholder and users alike.  The work to professionalise the organisation required the development of the Vision, the market strategies and delivery of significant growth in the emerging markets such as Utilities, Insurance, Land and Property, Personal navigation and web businesses over a five period.

Ordnance Survey is fully self-funded at £120m turnover with less than 45% revenues derived from the public sector.  A key element of this success has been achieved through the effective implementation of a range of partner relationships that have fostered innovation from small developers through to large system integrators.

Whilst at Ordnance Survey, James has launched a web 2.0 portal and an online e-commerce platform to grow the loyal consumer base.

Prior to joining Ordnance Survey he successfully set up and established the UK organisation for a US collaboration and e-commerce web solutions provider for the construction industry. In a 12 month period he established the business as the leading brand in a new emerging marketplace.

James is a graduate from Manchester University with a BSc (Hons) degree in civil engineering, a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He sits on their Geospatial and IT Advisory panels.  He is a founding member of the National Underground Asset Group (NUAG) and the current Chair of a cross Government Initiative on data sharing.
